Adjusted Body Weight Formula

The adjusted body weight formula is
AjBW = IBW + 0.4 x( ABW - IBW)

while

AjBW = adjusted body weight.
IBW = ideal body weight.
ABW = actual body weight.

The ideal body weight is calculated based on gender and height, it only works for the adult who is 5 feet and up.

There are many formulas to calculate ideal body weight, here we use one of the formulas for calculating. You can use our ideal weight calculator to calculate ideal weight by using different formulas.

Example

The ideal weight formula for men is:
50 + ( 2.3 x ( height - 60 ) ).
while
height = unit in inches.

For example, if a man is 6 feet tall and weighs 180 pounds (81.65kg),
his ideal weight is calculated as:
50 + ( 2.3 x ( 72 - 60 )) = 77.6 kg.

Then the adjusted body weight is calculated by using the formula:

IBW + 0.4 x ( ABW - IBW)
=77.6 + 0.4 x (81.65 - 77.6)
=79.22 kg
=174.65 lb.
