Median Calculator

Median Calculator calculate the median value given a set of numbers. The median is calculated by picking the middle element of a sort set of data.

Median Formula

Following is the median formula on how to calculate median of numbers.
1. Sort the data set
2. n^th element = Total Count/2 round up.
3. If the total count is an odd number, the median will be the n^th element. If the total count is an even number, the result will be the average of the n^th element and (n+1)^th element.

Example 1, the median of a sorted set {1, 5, 8, 9, 15, 35, 48}
1. n^th element = 7/2 = 3.5 = 4
2. Since the total count is an odd number, the median is the 4th element.
3. The median is 9.

Example 2: to calculate the median of a sorted set {4, 8, 9, 10, 20, 30}
1. n^th element = 6/2 = 3
2. Since the total count is an even number, the median is the average of n^th and (n+1)^th element which are the 3rd (9) and 4th (10) element.
3. The median is (9+10)/2 = 9.5
