How to calculate IV drip rate?

Following is how to calculate the IV drip rate per hour
1. Divide the given infusion volume(in ml) by the times it takes to finish the infusion (in minutes)
2. Multiply by the drop factor(in gtts/ml), that is the IV drip rate per minute.
3. Multiply by 60 which is the IV drip rate per hour.

For example, if your given infusion volume is 400 ml, the drop factor is 10 ml, and it takes 50 minutes to finish the infusion, following is how to calculate the IP drip rate.

IV drip rate = 400/50x10=80 gtts/minutes
80x60=4800 gtts/hour
