How to calculate pay raise?
Following are the step-by-step instructions on how to calculate pay raise. There are a few ways that an employee receives a pay raise, by a percentage, or by a flat number. In this section, we assume that an employee receives a flat number and wants to learn the percentage of the increase.
Pay Raise Percentage = Y / X, where
X = the old salary
Y = is the flat raise
For example, if an employee's current salary is $70,000 per year, and he receives a flat raise of $10,000, to calculate the raise in terms of percentage, we use the above formula.
Pay Raise Percentage
= 10,000/70,000
= 0.143 or
= 14.3%
How to calculate salary increase percentage?
In this section, we will learn how to calculate the salary increase percentage. Instead of a flat rate, an employee receives a raise in percentage.
Final Pay = X + Y*X, where
X = the old salary
Y = the raise percentage
How much is a 10 percent raise?
Let's calculate how much is a 10 percent raise using the above formula. If an employee is currently making $70,000 a year, and he is getting a 10% raise, the following is how to calculate his final pay.
First, we need to convert the 10% to a decimal, which is equal to 0.1
Final Pay
= 70,000 + 0.1*70,000
= 70,000 + 7,000
= $77,7000
How to use the pay raise calculator?
To use the pay raise calculator, you need to enter the following fields.
Pay before raise - the current salary before the raise. You can enter an hourly rate or the annual salary by selecting an option from the dropdown.
Hours per week - the number of hours that you work each week.
Pay raise percent - the percentage of the pay raise that you expect to get.
Based on the above input, the pay raise calculator will return a salary table that displays your salary before and after the raise.
The income table shows how much you pay hourly, weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, and annually.

How to ask for a raise?
The best way to get a raise is to ask for it. Guess what, many people don't get pay raises because they never ask.
If one wants to move up the corporate ladder, asking for a pay raise is a skill that he needs to acquire. Following are a few tips and strategies on how to ask for a raise.
- Salary research - research the salary range for your position in your city and state. See what other companies are paying their employees that have similar working experience as you do.
- Pick the right time - what's the financial situation of your company? Is the company doing well and the business is booming or are there any recent layoffs showing signs the company is in trouble. Choose a time when the financial health of your company is good. Is your manager busy or under stress lately? Choose a time and ask for a meeting when he is happy and calm.
- List your accomplishments - why do you think you deserve a pay raise? Let your boss or manager know your accomplishments and the value that you added to the company, such as revenue growth, cost-cutting, service improvement, or other responsibilities that you may have. Be precise about the salary figure that you are asking for and why it is a competitive wage.
- Be prepared for questions - your manager may ask you questions related to the details of your accomplishments and the salary range on the job market. He may even negotiate with you if you ask for a big jump. Make sure you rehearse at home just like when you are preparing for a job interview.
- Thank your manager - show appreciation and thank your manager for the consideration of your request.
